Anthracnose ripe rot, caused by Colletotrichum spp., can be a serious disease concern for blueberry growers, particularly as fruit develops and approaches harvest.

In 2025, researchers from North Carolina State University evaluated fungicide treatments for the control of Anthracnose ripe rot in ‘Farthing’ blueberries at the Horticultural Crops Research Station in Castle Hayne, North Carolina.

Overall, the research demonstrated strong performance from Magna-Bon CS 2005 against Anthracnose ripe rot.

NC State Anthracnose Research Results

Across the combined harvest evaluations, the untreated check recorded a 19.3% incidence of Anthracnose Ripe Rot , while Magna-Bon CS 2005 at 51.2 fl oz/A demonstrated 93% Control of Anthracnose.

Untreated Check: 19.3% Anthracnose Infection Rate
Magna-Bon CS 2005: 93% Control of Anthracnose

Evaluated Under Field Conditions

The trial was conducted on 13-year-old ‘Farthing’ blueberry bushes using a randomized complete block design with five replications per treatment.

Applications were made during key stages of blueberry development, including:

  • Full bloom
  • Flower drop
  • Small green fruit
  • Green fruit
  • Late green fruit

Magna-Bon CS 2005 was evaluated at 51.2 fl oz per acre. Meanwhile, researchers harvested ripe blueberries on May 16 and May 23.

After harvest, the fruit was placed under storage conditions that allowed Anthracnose ripe rot symptoms to develop. As a result, researchers could evaluate disease incidence after harvest.

Why Magna-Bon CS 2005?

More than disease control. Magna-Bon CS 2005 gives blueberry growers an advanced copper solution designed for effective crop protection while reducing overall metallic copper use.

🌿 OMRI-Listed for Organic Use: An OMRI-listed copper solution that fits both organic and conventional blueberry production programs.

🛡️ Dual Mode of Action: Contact & Systemic Activity provides protection on the plant surface while also delivering activity within plant tissue.

♻️ Minimizes Environmental Impact: Lower metallic copper use helps reduce unnecessary copper loading while maintaining effective disease-management performance.

🫐 Broad-Spectrum Disease Protection: Labeled for multiple important blueberry diseases, including: Anthracnose • Algal Stem Blotch • Bacterial Canker • Fruit Rot • Gray Mold • Mummy Berry • Phomopsis Twig Blight • Powdery Mildew • Root Rot • Rust

Its copper sulfate pentahydrate in-solution formulation delivers activity on the plant surface and within plant tissue, providing both contact and systemic disease protection.

Research-Backed Anthracnose Management

Effective Anthracnose management starts before disease pressure becomes visible. A proactive program can help protect developing fruit throughout critical stages of blueberry production.

The 2025 NC State research provides another field evaluation of Magna-Bon CS 2005 for Anthracnose management in blueberries, giving growers research-backed information for building stronger disease-control programs.

Research Backed. Field Tested. Grower Approved.

Less Copper. More Power.
