Get Ahead of Bacterial Spot Before Disease Pressure Builds

Bacterial spot control in peppers requires a proactive disease-management program, as the disease can quickly impact foliage, plant health and marketable fruit.

Because warm, wet conditions can favor bacterial development and spread, growers should take action before disease pressure becomes established.

Targeted Bacterial Spot Control

Magna-Bon CS 2005 is an OMRI-listed copper sulfate pentahydrate formula in solution labeled for the control of Bacterial Spot in peppers, along with Anthracnose and Cercospora Leaf Spot. Unlike many conventional copper products, its copper-in-solution formulation helps growers maximize copper performance while reducing overall metallic copper input. Why Magna-Bon CS 2005?

  • Contact & Systemic Activity: Provides multiple levels of disease protection.
  • Effective Disease Control: Research-backed performance against bacterial leaf spot.
  • Lower Metallic Copper: An efficient copper-in-solution formulation helps reduce overall metallic copper input.
  • Flexible Disease Protection: Labeled for Bacterial Spot, Anthracnose and Cercospora Leaf Spot in peppers.
  • Organic & Conventional Use: OMRI-listed for organic production and suitable for conventional disease-management programs.

Research-Backed Performance in Bell Peppers

Independent research conducted by A & L Laboratories, Inc. evaluated Magna-Bon CS 2005 for bacterial leaf spot management in bell peppers.

During the trial, plants were inoculated with bacterial leaf spot and evaluated at approximately 30, 60 and 90 days.

At each evaluation timing, CS 2005 produced the lowest reported bacterial leaf spot value among the treatments evaluated.

Most notably, at the final 90-day evaluation, Magna-Bon CS 2005 recorded a disease value of just 1.5%, compared with 2.2% for Kocide® 101 and 4.2% for the untreated control.

As a result, the disease value observed with CS 2005 had 99% Control at 90 days!

Bacterial Leaf Spot Research Results

Evaluation Magna-Bon CS 2005 Kocide® 101 Untreated Control
30 Days 2.1% 3.1% 4.7%
60 Days 2.2% 2.7% 5.6%
90 Days 1.5% 2.2% 4.2%

At the final 90-day evaluation, Magna-Bon CS 2005 recorded a disease value of just 1.5%, compared with 2.2% for Kocide 101 and 4.2% for the untreated control.

Start Before Disease Pressure Takes Hold

Preventive applications are an important part of bacterial spot management.

Therefore, CS 2005 applications in peppers should begin when conditions favor disease development and continue according to disease severity and current label directions.

By getting ahead of disease pressure, growers can help protect plant health, maintain foliage and reduce bacterial spot pressure throughout the growing season.
